Yuki Sekiguchi (RADM ret.) Appointed as Executive Officer (Security) at Cognitive Research Labs, Inc.

Yuki Sekiguchi (RADM ret.) has been appointed as Executive Officer (Security) at Cognitive Research Lab, Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Hideto Tomabechi, hereafter CRL).

Yuki Sekiguchi served in the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force for over 30 years. He held positions such as Chief Instructor of the Navigation Department at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, Liaison Officer at the United States Central Command, and Chief Defense Attaché at the Embassy of Japan in the United States. He made significant contributions to military exchanges between Japan and the United States. Notably, Rear Admiral is the rank below Chief of Staff and Admiral within the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. In 2015, he became the first person from Asia to be appointed as the head of the Defense Attaché Corps, which includes defense attachés from over 100 countries stationed in the United States (https://ameblo.jp/tank-2012/entry-12092901503.html).

In his new role at CRL, as Executive Officer (Security), he will be responsible for overseeing our consulting business, think tank operations, and related software and hardware research and development in the areas of cognitive warfare defense, cyber defense, and overall security. He will undertake these responsibilities with the advice of our Special Advisor, Dr. Linton Wells, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense.

Yuki Sekiguchi’s Profile

Graduated from the School of Science and Engineering, National Defense Academy, and holds a Master’s degree in International Politics from Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School. He has served as the Navigation Officer of the destroyer JS Hatsuyuki, Chief Navigation Instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and Captain of the destroyer JS Hamagiri. He was seconded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he served as the Japanese representative at the Multinational Forces Coordination Office of the U.S. Central Command in Florida. His later roles included Chief of the Japan-U.S. Joint Operations Division at the Joint Staff Office, Defense Policy Coordinator at the Maritime Staff Office, Counselor at the Japanese Embassy in the U.S. (Head of the Defense Section), Director of the Command, Control, Communications, and Computer Systems Directorate (J-6) at the Joint Staff, Chief of Staff at the Maizuru District Headquarters, President of the JMSDF 2nd Technical School, and Vice President of the JMSDF Command and Staff College. He retired in December 2022.

After retirement, he has been involved in research on cognitive warfare and next-generation cyber warfare, as well as developing leadership education programs for mission-critical fields in collaboration with our CEO, Hideto Tomabechi.
