 Founded in 1988 as Japan’s first artificial intelligence and cognitive science research institute, our company has been providing next-generation technologies to society mainly through government funded R&D projects and licenses to advanced companies. Moving forward, we will continue to utilize cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI, hybrid AI, next-generation machine learning, cybersecurity next-generation networks for emergency response, and cognitive defense. Business Vision

 At CRL, we are developing businesses that protect the safety and integrity of an increasingly digitalized society by combining unique discrete mathematical models, such as linear-time tamper-resistant non-destructive data structures and algorithms known as Tomabechi Algorithms, combined with advanced computer technologies. Moving forward, we aim to explore uncharted markets and expand our market share through alliances that leverage CRL’s unique technological capabilities. Additionally, we are committed to addressing issues related to national security by deepening collaborations with domestic and international research institutions, governments and corporations.

History

1988

・ Cognitive Research Laboratories, Inc. resumed operations.
・ Resumed through projects funded by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

1990-1997

・ Cognitive Research Laboratories, Inc. entered a dormant period.
・ The dormancy was due to Tomabechi’s appointment as a professor at a national university.
・ Tomabechi became an associate professor at Tokushima University and later joined Justsystems (serving concurrently as Director of the Tokyo Research Institute and the Basic Research Institute).

February 1998

・ Cognitive Research Laboratories, Inc. resumed operations.
・ Resumed primarily through projects funded by the supplementary budget of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

March 2000

・ CRL Brains Inc. was established.
・ Hideto Tomabechi served as the CEO concurrently.

March 2001

・Cognitive Research Labs, Inc. was inaugurated by merger of two companies.

August 2023

・ Following several organizational changes since 2001, the Security Division was newly established in August 2023, transitioning to the current organizational structure.
